Welcome to your open source internship!!!
Before we start, if you haven’t already - join our Discord community here.
Our goal is to help you get your first job - we know that hiring managers highly value candidates that have open source contribution on their CV, particularly in high profile open source projects that are very well known.
Over the next months through this internship you will gain new skills that are needed in the industry, we will expose you to new technologies, help you land your own pull requests in top notch open source projects, and connect you with mentors who will share from their generous experience.
We have prepared for you a set of self paced learning resources, you can go through them before starting, or you can reference them as needed while working on your tasks. We recommend you at least go through the concepts in each resource in the library so you’d know the basics before diving into code.
Once ready, schedule time with your tech lead. We recommend setting up a weekly 30 minute check in so you can discuss your progress, and get guidance and support on any issues you have that block you from progress.
On your first call you should pick up your first project, we aim to give you an easy first assignment so you can learn the basics of getting an environment set up and the motions of contributing to an open source project.
As you work through your project, make good use of our discord community, you will find other interns that are probably working on the same code base, similar to work in the industry, getting help in unblocking yourself through online content, chatgpt and your team mates is the reality of life.
Finally, share your updates every week here so others can see what you’re working on, and we could celebrate your progress, don’t worry about perfection, just write down what you’ve been up to and what’s next.
